my first X1/9 has been sitting around at my dad's place for several months now, ever since i got my twin cam X1/9 on the road.

basically, i don't know what to do with it. i don't REALLY want to part with it, but i just don't have the space for it.

plenty of pics available, this 'profile' story on xweb: Two Cars Enter, One Car Leave - ash on Sep 5, 2003

it's not a pretty car, and it's not in great condition. i bought it for $1300 in august 2002, it spent 2 weeks on the road, then i had the cooling system fully overhauled, engine tuned and stuff. it's got a new clutch, timing belt... and some other stuff that i don't recall. i put maybe 4000kms on this car, and spent nearly $3000 on it... $6.50 alone on the paintjob and $25 on the limo tint. :D

i drove it real hard for the last 2 months of it getting me about, and it loved it. it needs a gearstick... i had to scavenge it for my twin cam when my old man busted it. other than that, it drives nicely, can overheat but i'm sure it's just air trapped in the system, and back then i didn't know how to get it out. there's rust in a lot of little places, don't expect it to be impressive, i don't even know whether it's werth restoring or stripping for a race car... which is what i'd like to do, but don't have the time.

oh, it also has a "wibble", which is something to do with the rear-left trailing arm or something suspension-sounding. it kind of kicks a bit when straightening up after a hard corner.

i'm not gonna break it up, as it's taking up space at my old man's and the only thing werse than a dormant car is a million pieces of car.

so, chances are it's of no use to anyone, as you'll need to be in adelaide to get it. don't know what i want for it, and not desperate to be rid of it, so take yer time.

either that or i need to buy a gearstick so i can drive it again myself.

hey guys, got rid of the car.

it was originally destined to be my little bro's, was gonna give it to him and let him fix it up, but he was taking too long to take it away, so Garren from the SA fiat/lancia club piped up and said he'd take it off my hands for $500 bucks. :?

well, deal's done (well, money's on the way :) ) and the car's gone. things heard to be said were:

"wow, it's worse than i thought."

"that's the worst X1/9 i've ever seen."

:D

well, it's the second best X1/9 i've ever owned.

to my surprise, after a little cranking the engine burst into life and ran smooth as a baby's butt, and revved happily. after 9 months of dormancy it was so cool to hear that thing alive again. i didn't think i'd be able to drive it onto the trailer though, as the gearstick isn't attached properly, however with a bit of fiddling i managed to find 1st, and drove it a good 30 metres then onto the trailer.

well, it's gone now. Garren reckons he mainly just needs the gearbox, and might make use of the engine, and has dreams of making an X1/9 race-car (don't we all  ).

well, here's a couple pics and stuff:
